海からのかたち

新島の青く澄んだ海は、この地を訪れる作家たちにとって、尽きることのない「かたちの宝庫」でした。寄せては返す波が運ぶ流木や、波に洗われたガラス片──。
ビーチコーミングで得たインスピレーションは、作家たちの手によって新たな生命を吹き込まれます。

かつて地球の海には、炭素ではなく「シリカ（ガラスの主成分）」を礎とした生命の可能性があったかもしれません。そんな空想を現実にするかのように、ガラスという素材は、時に生物の皮膚のような生々しさを、時に水そのもののような瑞々しさを、驚くほど写実的に描き出します。

本展では、新島に集う作家たちが挑んできた、海にまつわる造形を一堂に展示いたします。 新しく生まれ変わった空間で、ガラスが映し出す「海」の姿を再発見してください。

The crystal-clear waters of Niijima have long been an inexhaustible "treasury of forms" for the artists who visit this island.
Driftwood carried by the rhythmic tides, glass fragments washed smooth by the waves—the inspirations gathered through beachcombing are breathed into new life by the hands of these creators.
Perhaps, in the ancient oceans of Earth, there existed the possibility of life based not on carbon, but on silica—the very essence of glass. As if bringing such fantasies to reality, the medium of glass captures the startling realism of organic textures and the pristine fluidity of water itself.This exhibition brings together a diverse collection of sea-inspired works by artists drawn to Niijima.
